We’re delighted you want to find out more about becoming a householder. The basic principle of this is that you will rent out a room and provide guidance and support to help a young person who would otherwise be homeless. We will provide you with comprehensive training and ask you to complete a range of checks like DBS. For playing your part in helping beat youth homelessness, you’ll receive rent income and a payment for the support you provide.
We are looking for householders for a variety of lodgings services. Some placements are short – only a week or two – sometimes they will be for much longer. The length of the placement is generally dependent on which borough of London you live in – we provide different services in all of them. You don’t need to own your home to become a householder for CAYSH.
The young people we help come from all kinds of backgrounds – and so we need a diverse range of householders to support the programme and welcome applications from all sections of the community. Ages range from 16 to 21 and where we can we help make sure that householders and their lodger share common interests and characteristics. This is Diana’s story about the help she received.
CAYSH is a registered charity that helps young people with nowhere to live. One of the ways we do this is by providing ‘supported lodgings’ where we place young people with householders in a safe and decent home. CAYSH has been providing this and other services across London for well over thirty years.
We will help make sure that you are fully equipped to be a householder. We provide a comprehensive training programme for you and afterwards you’ll have a reliable contact at CAYSH who you can call on for advice and guidance or to help solve any problems. We will help you make sure you are doing all the right things like health and safety checks and so on. We will also undertake statutory checks as required by our local authority funders.
