Supported Lodgings
The largest independent lodgings scheme for young people in the country, CAYSH’s Supported Lodgings provides young people with accommodation in people’s homes. The tenant is therefore sharing the house with the householder and perhaps their family.
With householder and tenant living together in the same property, CAYSH carries out detailed pre-placement assessments of householders and tenants to find the best placement. Our dedicated Lodgings Team then provide ongoing support to both the young person and the householder throughout the placement.
What does it achieve?
- Private rented accommodation is made more available to young people in London Boroughs of Croydon and Greenwich
- Local communities get more involved in local housing and homelessness issues
- Young people remain in their local community
- They develop independent skills in a supportive environment
- They feel integrated in their community, avoid social isolation and widen their training and education options
CAYSH’s Supported Lodgings Officers provide ongoing support and advice to both the tenants and the householders.
Referral procedures:
- CROYDON: Most referrals come through CAYSH’s Housing Advice Project in central Croydon. We also accept direct referrals from other housing advice services and local colleges.
- GREENWICH: Referrals can be made direct by Greenwich council's housing department.
Householders: Do you have a room to let in the Croydon or Greenwich council areas? Would you like to help young people? Find out more.
